New Job

I started a new job this week. I’m working as a case manager for a transitional housing program for youth. That is, I help homeless youth to not be homeless anymore. So far I like it a lot. I’m easing my way into it as my fellow case managers introduce me to my clients and explain procedures etc. It’s overwhelming at times, but I left Friday feeling good about the job and my handle on it.

The clients are a little “rough around the edges”, which suits me just fine. Part of the goal is to help these teens learn to interact in society in order to hold down and job and a home. This means helping them to smooth out some of the roughness. But there is honesty in their character that is refreshing and, I must admit, amusing.

I’m sure there will be lots of great learning in this new job. I’ll share when I can.

Congratulations. Is this a job you plan to keep after school is over or is it a stop gap job until you decide what to do next?

When I grow up to be a homeless teen there'll be nobody else I'd rather "polish" my social mannerisms ;-)

Seriously, though - that sounds like a great gig for you, my brother. I'll be looking forward to hearing more about it.

Hope it's great! My uncle works in downtown Denver helping homeless youth with Dry Bones. Have you heard of it?
